Attractive apprenticeships as a commercial employee at Johnson  Matthey

Johnson Matthey & Brandenberger AG is a small subsidiary company of a global company that has more than 50 branch offices in 30 countries. We are involved in trading precious metals and precious metal-containing products, and mainly supply the Swiss market, Germany and Austria. Our customers include one-person companies as well as listed companies active in the construction, chemical, machinery, jewellery and watch industries, electroplating, research and other sectors.

We have successfully trained apprentices for more than 40 years. Some apprentices have continued their career with us, others have created their own company or work in diverse sectors such as commerce, the media, theatre, the arts, etc.

We can offer you a versatile, wide-ranging and attractive vocational training:

  • In addition to the import and export sector, you will learn about the precious metal trade and foreign exchange.
  • You will learn the fundamentals of purchasing and sales
  • You can use your German, French and English language skills in your contacts with our clients and suppliers in Switzerland and abroad.

If you are tempted by this offer and are attending secondary school A (Canton Zurich) or Advanced school (Canton Aargau), we would be glad to receive your written application via the platform Yousty.ch, or by mail to Roger Metzger.

Here is a glimpse of what some of our previous apprentices have written during their training:

Natalija Brechbühler

Former 3rd year apprentice

In the training with Johnson Matthey and Brandenberger AG, I particularly appreciated that the apprentices could work independently, and constantly had the opportunity to learn new things. The tasks in the departments are very varied and the reception service that the apprentices take over provided additional aspects to our training. Throughout the three years I always felt that I was in good hands. My colleagues were always friendly and supportive.

Nicolas Kündig

Former 2nd year apprentice

I found the greatest advantage of completing an apprenticeship with Johnson Matthey was the professionalism of my colleagues and the variety of assignments. One learns how to carry out one’s work in an exact and rapid manner and to work out a possible solution for new topics. In addition, one benefits from the many changing tasks within the assignments, because one also learns aspects that don’t belong to the actual repertoire of a commercial employee. I personally found it absolutely fascinating to also see the products that one sells and in some cases to work on them.

Lavanja Sriskantharajah

Former 1st year apprentice

I began my apprenticeship with Johnson Matthey & Brandenberger AG in summer 2013. At present, I am in the Jewellery & Watches department. This department supplies the jewellery and watch industries with semi-finished products. I was introduced to the daily business and can also already process client orders. I also enjoy working at reception. My friendly and supportive colleagues helped me settle into my professional life very well.

Former 3rd year apprentice

What I find particularly interesting here, and also like very much, is the variety of work that one may practise. In contrast to other training companies, one is fully occupied and may be “in charge of” a given area, for which one is responsible. Here, there is an open and friendly atmosphere, and everyone always takes care to ensure that this continues.
